Cotopaxi 5897 m, Ecuador
Expedition: 10 or 17 days
2 to 8 persons group
Quito, Ecuador (UIO)

Cotopaxi
is a volcano located in the Andes, in Ecuador. The tallest active volcano in the world, it was first climbed by W Ried and Escobar in1872. Surrounded by a valley, it is 2750 m high, or 5897 m above sea-level.

It is estimated that Cotopaxi’s
crater is over 500 m from west to east, and 700 m from north to south. The snow-cap that covers its peak is 1340 m.

You have to be in great shape to scale Cotopaxi, but inner strength and a deep desire to reach the top are even more important. Climbers must be accompanied by experienced local guides. If you dream of such a challenge, we’d love to see you!

We will begin by taking a few days to get acclimitized in the region of
Otavalo, hiking to the Mojanda lagoon and then climbing to the Imbabura.

Next, we take on our first 5000 m: the
IIlinizas (5012 m and 5263 m). After resting for a day, we will be ready to embark on the big adventure: climbing the spectacular Cotopaxi.

We will then end  our trip on a relaxing note in the beautiful resort of
Banos .
