| Ecuador, The Switzerland of the Incas, this excursion leads to the royal alley, which boasts the highest fire mountains in the world. Between the Pacific and the Amazonia, there is a tall ring of fire known as : the Alley of the Volcanoes, or the path of the sun. Some 2500 m high, 400 km long and 60 km wide, between an western and eastern cordillera, it is an island lost in the clouds guarded by the gods. We begin our adventure in the region of Otavalo north of the capital of Quito . to visit the famous market and local villages, followed by a hike to the Mojanda Mojanda lagoon and to Fuya Fuya. We continue onward to the El Chaupi village, then begin an excursion to the camp of the Ilinizas mountains to watch the sunset on the Alley of the Volanoes above the clouds, star-gaze at 4600 m high, and finally, watch the sunrise on the Amazonia. We’re now ready for our 4-day trek from the Cotopaxi travelling between the Sincholagua and the Cerro Cubillin to the Antisana and the Papallacta hot springs. From Andean heights (4000 m), we descend to the Amazonia (500 m). The vegetation changes and temperatures rise as we come closer to Puerto Misahualli; we embark on a pirogue excursion and a stroll in the forest. We continue onward to the resort of Banos and its more temperate, if not idyllic, climate; only the Tungurahua volcano threatens this peaceful area. As our trip draws to an end, we may, weather permitting, travel from Alausi to Huigra by train – an adventure in itself! We will spend our last day visiting the colonial city of Quito.
